A strong group of UNSW students, staff, club and community members has banded together to work on the development of the new Women in Sport Strategy. Early meetings have centred around research, listening to diverse voices and brainstorming the needs of women in sport at UNSW.

As the project evolves, working groups focussing on the four strategic pillars of the Sport NSW Women in Sport Strategy - participation, places and spaces, leadership and leveraging investment - will be developed and community input through surveys will be sought.

The meetings thus far have attracted representatives from across the sporting community with backgrounds in AFL, rugby, cricket, netball, judo, taekwondo, swimming, gridiron, fencing, hockey and football to name but a few.

The aim of the strategy is to create an inclusive sporting culture across the university - from small scale participation events on campus through to University Nationals and support of our elite athletes.

With many young women leaving sport during their teenage years due to work, friendship pressures, study and body image issues, the university can become a key place to re-engage female participants and create an environment where they feel welcome and part of a community.
