Football (Soccer)

With the junior competition getting underway over the weekend, our UNSW footballers have been among the first to return to competition. The 17U women's team managed a hard-fought draw with St George, while the 17U team lost 1-3 and the 15U team had a tough 0-6 loss. In the youth men's competition our teams took on Nepean and the 18U team lost 0-1, the 16Us won 3-2, the 15Us lost 2-3, the 14Us lost 0-7 and the 13Us lost 0-5. The senior NPL teams will hit the fields this weekend, in a much-anticipated start to the season!

We loved this goal from the club's AA2 game during last week as well!

AA2's striker Matt Vandenberg beats Dunbar Rovers FC's keeper from half way.

AFL

With AFL season due to begin this weekend, our UNSW-ES Bulldogs teams have enjoyed a return to full training from 1 July. Our Men's Premier team are looking to defend their 2019 premiership, while our Women's Premier team will be hoping for a big bounceback from a below par 2019 to get back up to a more familiar position on top of the ladder. As our teams prepare, they can take some inspiration from UNSW Elite Athlete Program member James Rowbottom, who scored this incredible goal in the Sydney Swans' loss to Richmond on the weekend.

Netball

The UNSW Netball Club plays in the Randwick Association competition, which will get underway on Saturday 25 June. A number of teams are defending premierships in this Covid-shortened season, so we will stay across their results and update as the season progresses. In the meantime, our teams have also enjoyed a return to full training and are preparing well for the season ahead.

Gridiron

Our UNSW Raiders are into the preseason swing of things, with a confirmed season start date set for 26 September. After a stellar 2019 with the Women's team winning the premiership and the Men's team finishing runners up, they will be very keen to get back on to the field. Plenty of strength and fitness is taking place at the moment - both on the field and in the gym. And some exciting looking filming has been taking place, so keep your eyes open for their 2020 video - coming soon!

Hockey

Our men's and women's hockey teams are also training hard for a return to the field this weekend, when the Sydney Women's Hockey League and Sydney Hockey Association competitions get underway. The players will be bursting to get back out and playing in this delayed season.

Rugby

NSW Suburban Rugby also begins this weekend, with our UNSW teams competing in Division Two across the Barraclough, Stockdale, Roberston (Colts), Blunt and Richardson Cups with games against Hills to start the season. The Shute Shield also kicks off this weekend, with UNSW community partners Randwick Rugby taking part. As well as our usual crop of UNSW students, Australian 7s star and UNSW Elite Athlete Program member Henry Hutchison will be bolstering the First Grade team as they take on Newcastle Hunter in Round 1 at Coogee Oval.
