After being awarded a university Blue for her sporting prowess in April and smashing the UniSport Australia 3000m Steeplechase record on the same day, her personal best time (PB) has been the next record in her sights.

After a disappointing Australian Championships, Winkcup was awarded a discretionary place at the Oceania Championships and she grabbed the opportunity with both hands. She beat her season best from University Nationals, as well as her PB of 10:16 - recording an incredible run of 9:46.

But Winkcup wasn't finished there. Going one second better in Belgium in July, she then went on to race in Birmingham in August, where she lowered her time again, finishing in 9:37 and earning her a place in the Australian team to compete at her first senior World Championships.

Winkcup is currently in camp with the Australian team in Italy, where they are undertaking training to prepare them for the heat of Doha. She credits a change up to the style of training coming into winter for her incredible rise in form, believing the focus on mileage and threshold training rather than speed put her in good stead to make this amazing breakthrough.

Currently in her fifth year of an Arts/Law degree, Winkcup will be focussing on athletics over the coming few weeks, before returning to Sydney to hit the books again and chase her other dream of becoming a successful lawyer.
