NSW Waratahs a big hit at UNSW Family Day

There was plenty of fun to be had and rugby skills to be learnt as the NSW Waratahs, UNSW and YMCA teamed up at Family Day.
There was plenty of fun to be had and rugby skills to be learnt as the NSW Waratahs, UNSW and YMCA teamed up at Family Day.

After the event was washed out in 2018, there was a lot of excitement in the air for UNSW Family Day in 2019, especially as it coincided with the university's 70th anniversary celebrations.

With food, games, rides, singing and dancing, the event was full of fun from start to finish. Representatives from the NSW Waratahs joined in the fun, running some rugby passing games along with the UNSW YMCA to keep kids active and entertained. 

All three Waratahs in attendance have a strong connection to the university, as they are all current students and members of UNSW's Elite Athlete Program.

Bachelor of Science student and UNSW Blues recipient Ned Hanigan has balanced study with a high level of rugby, having represented not only the Waratahs, but the NSW Country Eagles in the National Rugby Championship and the Wallabies internationally. 

UNSW's 2018 Indigenous Athlete of the Year and Bachelor of Arts student Triston Reilly was also on hand to give the kids some pointers, along with Bachelor of Engineering student James Ramm. It was a great day out and no doubt there were plenty of future UNSW students and maybe even some future Waratahs among the participants.
