AFL

An absolute nail biter of a game sent the UNSW-ES Men's Premier Division team catapulting into the next round of the finals, winning a very tight match over arch rivals Sydney Uni. Sydney Uni got off to a strong start, but the Bulldogs kept coming back at them. Despite an eight point deficit at three-quarter time, the Bulldogs kept their hopes alive and finished with a very strong fourth quarter to take the win by two points. They will head to the semi finals next week against the North Shore Bombers, who finished the regular season undefeated at the top of the ladder. Last time the two teams met, the Bombers ran away with it by 41 points, but the Bulldogs learnt a lot of lessons from that game and will be prepared to take them on this weekend.

HOCKEY

Another tight game on this action packed weekend unfortunately saw UNSW exit the finals in the Women's Metro League 1 division. Going in as underdogs against the first ranked Sydney Uni team, a strong fight all match had them drawn at 1-1 at full time. The game progressed to a penalty shootout, which unfortunately Sydney Uni won 4-2. A disappointing end to the season, but there is no doubt the team will be back bigger and better in 2021. The Men's Premier League 1 team are still ticking along with their regular season, notching up a two point win over Sutherland - they have one round remaining before finals. Graham Brennan scored two goals for UNSW, while Joshua Mayo slotted one.

RUGBY

Grand final day in the NSW Suburban Rugby competition and what a day it was! UNSW were contesting two grand finals - the Stockdale Cup and the Richardson Cup. Unfortunately it wasn't to be in the Stockdale Cup - despite a valiant effort all season, UNSW went down by 40 points to a dominant Hunters Hill side. In the Richardson Cup, UNSW were able to pull of a tight, grinding win over St Patrick's in an outstanding team effort. Patrick Burke-Marcou scored the only try for UNSW, while Ben Hodgins kicked a penalty and a conversion to seal the win and bring home the trophy.

FOOTBALL (SOCCER)

A tight draw for the Men's NPL4 team this week against Hawkesbury City FC sees them drop to second place on the ladder with one round remaining in the regular season. They take on the 10th placed Camden Tigers in the final round and will be looking for a big win to boost their goal differential. Unfortunately a loss for the Women's NPL2 team, going down to Granville Ravens. Miranda Summersby-Mitchell was UNSW's only goal scorer for the match.
