Welcome/Club History
The
University athletics club was founded in 1953. As one of the
older clubs on campus it has a distinguished and proud tradition
of achievement. The club has produced many State and National
Champions, as well as International representatives in such
events as World Championships, Commonwealth, World Junior,
World Student, and Olympic Games.
Currently the club only provides coaching for dedicated and competitive sprinters. The UNSW athletes club has a proud tradition of having some of the best sprinters in the state. Whilst we do welcome athletes of all standards to represent the club in competitions such as the Australian University Games and ANSW events, our ability to provide coaching in other disciplines are very limited.
At differing times, in association with Sydney University or other local clubs, it has dominated the Athletics New South Wales inter-district team premiership competition. The club is registered with the Athletics NSW, the governing body of athletics in the state. Athletes from any discipline can register through the club to compete at events organized by Athletics NSW (ANSW) and Athletics Australia.
Joining the Athletics Club
The minimum cost to join the club is just $10, and maximum is $170. These costs cover club membership, training, uniform and Athletics NSW registration. Please contact us at unswac@hotmail.com.

University Games - What do we do?
Australian Uni Games is the highlight of the athletics club year, both socially and competitively. Uni games runs for 5 days in the September holidays, with 3 days of competition for the athletics. Usually these three days of competition are held on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the week. Every night there is a social function, starting with the opening ceremony on the Sunday night. At the end of the final day of athletics competition, there is a black tie dinner with all the other athletics teams from the other universities, which is an occasion not to be missed. Accommodation is with the rest of the athletics team, and will be arranged by the team manager. Often the entire UNSW team stays at the one place. There is a discount of between 20-80% on airfares and accommodation available, depending on how we perform as a team.
Scholarships
The athletics club has the Lexcen scholarship and other scholarships available to assist athletes. Please contact the scholarships units and club for selection criterias.
